So far my experience I would divide 3 types of users..
1. Wants just a player which is portable ,reasonable price and looks decent.They just want to listen to some music on the go. Sound quality,headphones does not matter as such.
2.Wants a player with good market reputation, like iPod touch. Look n feel should be eye catching.They will argue on that player that this is the best player because its brand is the topmost.
3.Now the third one are freaks..they care less about the look n feel. Its not so important. Buttons/design does not matter much. What matters is the sound quality. Brand carry's little value. They want to fiddle with the settings and want some settings with which they can keep on fiddling the entire night.
The above division is not 100% correct but most of the cases are true.
The third kind of people will love Cowon but not iPod touch. They even love Sony 512 MB Network Mp3 player which looks pretty old and ugly compared to other devices.
Well, now about this device. It produces very normal sound in "default" settings. The provided headphone does not produce much bass, but clear sound. 3D surround works great with these. Definitely, you would buy a Klipsh or Sennheiser or whatever you like to get the missing bass.
Once you tweak the settings, you would get to know what can it produce leaving far far away the sound of so called eye catching players. It does not have browser, lot of games or apps but what it has is the superb sound quality and excellent video.
So far, I loved Sony Mp3 player for their crisp sound.But this one is something better than those.
If you talk about design- I would say its pretty good. Its absolutely light weight, lighter than iPod.
The buttons/volume control placed in well position. But Next/Prev buttons does not work when your not into "Music" or 'Video" menu..lets say..you are listening to a song and you are in Settings..the next/Prev button does not work. you have to be back in the Music menu to use them.
I play this in my Mustang with Infinity Basslink and it produces quality sound.

Heya all..i buy this product 2months ago..Cowon S9 is the greatest mp3 video player that already beat ipod touch n Samsung P3..Below i gv u all the fact reason:
* greatest sound (the only portable brand that use BBE sound system). Also got Mach3bass,Stereo/MP enhance n the reverb sound system.
* greatest graphic from any angle (16M color plus AMOLED touchscreen- active matrix organic light emitting diode)
* very nice design,slim n light..huh my frens call cowon s9 vry cute ;-)
* FM radio vry clear n great recording
* great GUI, adjustable menu icon works well
* the screen has premium scratch resistance..pls see youtube to watch with ur eyes..the back of the mp3 also scratch resistance..
* the flash player works well n long battery life

Overall S9 is really value for money. Having been an iphone, ipod and itouch user I must S9 capacitive touch screen is crap compared to Iphone. The build quality is also crapy.. My screen has one side not perfectly glued in properly. Sound quality wise, it wins apple easily. UI sucks.. There's no option to switch off the Radio.
Overall, I'm very happy with Amazon service. Looking forward to earphone promotions. Throw in some lightning deal for triple Fi 10 or sennheiser ie7 please. =)

This mp3 player is very good, and is definitely worth the money. When looking for an mp3 player, i dod a lot of research, and know pretty much everything that is desireable on an mp3 player. This mp3 player, being the best one i found meets or exceeds my expectations in everything except the following:
-It is almost impossible to create a playlist on the device. I still haven't figured out how, but i read online a way how to do it, and it was so complicated i have yet to try it.
-There is no sleep timer. You cannot set the mp3 player to turn off on its own, which can lead to draining out the battery.
-Navigation is somewhat awkward. its not the standard left/right/up/down arrows, and it takes some time to get used to.
If none of these cons are major setbacks for you, i highly recommend buying this player.

I was initially happy with the product when it worked. Cowon has history of problems that is why you do not see them at the stores. Now I now why.
I bought a product for $300 and last less than two years. You send in for service and pay $47 more for a software issue that is from their end. I got it back and
one day later it completely died. they wanted $127 more. I might as well buy and ipod touch or zune hd for that price.
